Monday of the 5th Week in the Ordinary Time

Genesis 1:1-19 ;

Psalm 104:1-2, 5-6, 10, 12, 24, 35;

Gospel MK 6:53-56

After making the crossing to the other side of the sea,
Jesus and his disciples came to land at Gennesaret
and tied up there.
As they were leaving the boat, people immediately recognized him.
They scurried about the surrounding country
and began to bring in the sick on mats
to wherever they heard he was.
Whatever villages or towns or countryside he entered,
they laid the sick in the marketplaces
and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak;
and as many as touched it were healed.

World Needs Blessing

We see a lot of negative things happening around us in day to day life. All these happenings emit ‘negative’ vibrations that fill this world. That is the reason we feel tired reading newspaper even for five minutes, or watching the news channels. These negative vibrations must be checked so that all in this world will live in happiness. For this reason the world needs blessings.

Life of Mary was a life of blessing for others. Gospel of John, 2:1-11 explains how Mary became a blessing to the family at Cana. They were in distress as the wine had got over. It is sure that the people gathered there might have had started criticising the family and finding fault with them. They might have had also started ridiculing them. It is here in this moment that Mary becomes a blessing to them by leading them to Jesus.

If wee too decide to be a blessing to this world, then there can be manifold ways to realise it. We can be a blessing when we live with our family members by overlooking (or forgetting) their sins and weaknesses. Mary showed it by living with Mary Magdalene. Even with a gaze of compassion, one can become a blessing as shown by Mary on Mount Calvary. She became a blessing to her dying son Jesus Christ by merely gazing him with love and compassion. Another way of becoming a blessing is by joining others to share their joy. Elizabeth felt Mary’s visit a blessing when Mary visited her to share the joy Elizabeth had in having a son in that old age. We can also become a blessing to others by being with them in prayer. Mary was a blessing to the disciples when she was with them in prayer in the upper room where both of them received the Holy Spirit. Most importantly we will be a blessing to this world if we can, as we see from Cana, suffer with people who are suffering by speaking positive things to instil hope in them and ultimately leading them to Jesus. The apparitions of Mary at Lourdes or at any other place too are the blessings to this world. Many find hope and encouragement in their lives through these apparitions.

The world has enough negative vibrations. What it needs today is the blessings. So that all in this world can be happy and healthy, loka samasta sukhino bhavantu.
