Saturday of the 2nd Week in the Ordinary Time

2 Timothy 1:1-8 or Titus 1:1-5;

 Psalm 96:1-3, 7-8, 10;

Gospel MK 3:20-21

Jesus came with his disciples into the house.
Again the crowd gathered,
making it impossible for them even to eat.
When his relatives heard of this they set out to seize him,
for they said, "He is out of his mind."

Republic Day

Today India celebrates its Republic Day. It is very important day for all the Indians as we commemorate the enactment of our constitution. We are no more under any foreign rule. We have our own constitution, our own rules and plans for the wellbeing of our country.

But Jesus wants to remind us that we will be slaves of sin if we do evil deeds. So in this sense we are yet to be really free.  On individual, social and national levels we have to be free from the clutches and sway of the evil forces and tendencies at work.

This is where the message and values of Jesus are going to be significant and of help. If we can work out a society based on these values of love, concern and compassion, then the individuals, society and nation will be really free in its true sense.

The nations count their progress according to growth of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP). But in our neighboring Bhutan they count their development on Gross National Happiness index.

So the contribution and responsibility of the Christians are very important in this process of bring about real freedom and happiness to our country. We can really become the beacons of hope and joy if we really live the message of Jesus and help others to live according to these values.

All the ministries and efforts of the Christians should be aimed at this single minded purpose of bring about peace and joy to our motherland. Let us spare no efforts for this.
